Bill Whitney Senior Theater

Bill Whitney directs scripts-in-hand plays and currently teaches acting techniques for Older Adult Service and Information Systems in Portland, Oregon and at Sherwood Senior Community Center in Sherwood, Oregon. In addition his groups perform at senior centers and local churches.

From a background as a child actor, Mr. Whitney has directed and acted in local television and extensively in community theatre. Best of all his theatre experience he likes his work enabling seniors who always wanted to act, something they may not have had the opportunity to do when they were younger. Mr. Whitney teaches his students how to develop a character and to stay in character no matter what else is happening onstage.

Whitney's supportive directing has attracted both experienced actors and people who have never been on stage before; some have physical problems, but are shown how to adapt their roles to compensate. His directing techniques work with them all, and the productions show the joy performers feel as they grow from novices to skilled actors. The number of enrollees grows with each quarter.
